👉 Meet the breeder behind these spotted sweethearts.

Our breeding program focuses on the exotic serval look—tall, long-legged, with striking spotted coats and large upright ears—balanced by calm, intelligent personalities and confident, social temperaments. Each of our breeding cats is carefully chosen for their outstanding type, temperament, and respected lineage, after reviewing their TICA-registered 5-generation pedigrees that show their officially documented Savannah ancestry. We provide these pedigrees for buyers to see, so you can appreciate the lineage and thoughtful planning behind each kitten’s striking appearance and confident nature.

We’re committed to maintaining PRA and PK-Def negative lines (tested through UC Davis or negative by parentage), and we operate an FIV/FeLV-free cattery—ensuring every pairing begins with healthy, happy, well-cared-for parents.

Our adult Savannahs live in spacious cattery buildings with attached open-air catios nestled beneath shady oak groves. Elevated skywalks stretch through the trees, overlooking the koi pond and surrounding forest—giving our cats room to climb, patrol around, observe, bird watch and thrive in a natural, enriching setting.

From the moment they’re born, kittens are raised inside our home and immersed in the rhythms of family life. From opening their eyes and taking their first wobbly steps to zooming around the room, mastering the litter box, wrestling with siblings, and climbing the cat wheel —they’re in motion from the start. We actively work with each kitten to prepare them for real-world adventures—beginning with time spent around our older Savannah cats and our friendly cattle dog, who’s always happy to help raise the next generation—then moving on to wearing harnesses, cat carriers, car rides, and even beach drives on the Pismo coast. Many of our kittens become confident little dashboard surfers, ready to set out on their new life’s adventures.

We document each and every litter from birth on our Instagram page—real photos and videos in their actual environment, — so you can follow their development as it happens.

  • Spotitude Savannahs Cattery Head Cat Wrangler Jenny Merfa holding an adorable spotted hybrid F5 Savannah kitten

Hi, I’m Jenny Merfa — owner, breeder, cat wrangler and head litterbox scooper here at Spotitude Savannahs.

Animals have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Over the years, I’ve bred Siberian Huskies, Gypsy horses, Bengals, Maine Coons… and for the past decade, I’ve focused on hybrid cats.

My background might not be what you’d expect from a breeder: I hold a Bachelor of Science in Geology, spent years as an environmental geologist doing site research for legal and real estate matters, and I’ve been a licensed real estate broker in California (CA DRE #01431011) since 2004.

Animals have always been at the center of my life. Breeding them wasn’t just a phase — I guess raising opinionated cats is my oddly specific calling. And apparently, I’ve made it my side mission to undo years of internet nonsense about what a Savannah cat actually is. (check out our faq section below!)

In our spare time between work and raising kittens, my husband and I tend to our small bamboo nursery and are avid winemakers — a quiet, earthy rhythm occasionally interrupted by someone meowing frantically for dinner.

If you’re here, you probably love cats as much as we do. Welcome — you’re in the right place.

What is a Savannah cat?

A Savannah cat is a hybrid breed that results from crossing a domestic cat with a serval, a wild African cat known for its striking appearance and tall stature. Savannahs are known for their exotic looks, featuring bold spots, large ears, and long legs, resembling their wild ancestors while retaining the friendly, playful temperament of domestic cats. They are energetic, intelligent, and highly social, making them excellent companions for the right home.

How big do Savannah cats get?

Savannah cats are bred for a tall, lean, serval-like appearance—it’s their height and build, not just their weight, that gives them their striking presence. Overall size depends on both generation and bloodlines. For example, some F5 Savannahs can be just as large as an F2, while certain F1s may weigh only around 12 lbs. In our own cattery, our F3 and F5 males are actually larger than our F1 and F2 females.

● F1s are closest to their serval ancestors and can weigh 10-25 or more pounds
● F2 males can often be as large as an F1
● SBT generations, (F4, F5) like ours, are typically smaller more like the size of a large domestic house cat, they typically range from 10-18 pounds.

What is the temperament of a Savannah cat?

Savannah cats are known for being active, playful, and loyal. They are highly intelligent and can be trained to walk on a leash, play fetch, play in water, run on cat wheels and even learn commands. They tend to form strong bonds with their families, often following their owners around the house. Savannahs are also curious and love to explore their surroundings, making them more adventurous than typical domestic cats.

Are Savannah cats legal to own?

All generations of Savannah cats are legal in California (wild African serval cats are NOT legal) however, laws regarding Savannahs vary by location, something to consider if you plan on moving in the future.

Specifically, Savannah cats are NOT legal to own in:
● Georgia
● Hawaii
● Nebraska
● New York City
● Rhode Island

Savannah cat ownership is limited by generation in the following states:
● Alaska – F4 and later only
● Colorado – Illegal in Denver
● Delaware – F4 and later only with a permit
● Iowa – F4 and later only
● Maryland – Limited to 30 lbs and under
● Massachusetts – F4 and later only
● New Hampshire – F4 and later only
● New York – F5 and later only (Illegal the 5 boroughs NYC – Queens, Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Staten Island)
● Texas – the most challenging to decipher legality as is determined by local and county laws, and often times the local officials themselves are not knowledgeable. In some areas of the state they are legal, in others there are bans on early generations and yet in other areas they are completely illegal
● Vermont – F4 and later only

Laws sometimes change; please confirm with your local municipality before reserving.

What type of environment is best for a Savannah cat?

Savannah cats thrive in an active, engaging environment where they can play, explore, and interact with their family. They are highly energetic and intelligent, so they need plenty of stimulation, such as toys, tall climbing trees, cat wheels and interactive play. They enjoy outdoor walks on a leash and can adapt well to homes with other pets, including dogs, when properly introduced. Due to their high energy levels, they are not well-suited to a sedentary lifestyle.

Due to their curious and fearless nature combined with their ability to run fast and far it is not recommended that they be allowed to roam free outdoors, catios are the better, safer option.

Are Savannah cats good with children and other pets?

Yes, Savannah cats can be excellent companions for children and other pets, especially when socialized from an early age. *Proper introductions between a kitten and resident pets is a must. Our kittens are raised in a home environment where they interact with all our other cats and our cat friendly dog, making them well-adjusted to different types of families. However, as with any pet, supervision is recommended with young children to ensure positive interactions. And just as every family is unique, resident pets may respond differently to a new companion—some adjust quickly, others may take more time. Flexibility and patience are key to a smooth transition.

What does an F# mean in hybrid Savannah cats?

The F-number (or filial number) represents how many generations a Savannah cat is removed from its serval ancestor.
F1 Savannahs have one serval parent and one domestic cat parent, making them the closest to wild servals.
F2 Savannahs have a serval grandparent.
F3 Savannahs have a serval great grandparent
F4 Savannahs have a serval great, great grandparent, and so on.
Spotitude specializes in F3, F4, and F5 kittens, which are further from the wild serval but still retain the breed’s signature exotic wild cat appearance but with more of a domestic cat temperament, making them more suitable for family life.

What does F# A, B, C & SBT mean?

A means one parent is either a serval, (as in an F1 A) or a non-Savannah domestic outcross (ie; F2 A would have an F1 Savannah mother and a non Savannah father, F3 A would have an F2 mother and a non Savannah father
B means both parents are Savannahs
C means that both parents and grandparents are Savannahs

SBT stands for Stud Book Tradition which means the parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents are all Savannahs. An SBT Savannah is at least 4 generations removed from the serval and has at least 3 generations of Savannah-to-Savannah breeding. It is a “purebred” Savannah with predictable traits, making it more consistent in size, appearance, and temperament and more suitable for family life. SBT’s are eligible for TICA showing.

Do you breed F1 Savannah cats?

No, we do not breed F1 kittens. We are located in California, while F1 Savannah cats are legal to own in California, breeding to produce F1 kittens is NOT legal in California. (F1’s are produced by breeding a Savannah cat to an African serval cat and it is illegal to own a Serval cat in the state of California.

There are several F1 breeders listing that they are located in California, while they may have F1 kittens, (please read the how to avoid a cat scam – section below) they are either actually located in a different state, working thru a breeding partnership or they are cat brokers, (as in they are not the actual breeder), they are buying and reselling someone else’s kittens.

How to avoid online cat scams: follow these detailed steps:

Research the Seller: Look for a reputable breeder. Check their cattery registration with organizations such as:
● TICA Spotitude is a TICA registered cattery – listed here, click to verify our contact information
The Savannah Cat Association click here to verify our membership.

Visit their website and social media accounts. Check names, dates, friends lists, posts, etc. Legitimate breeders often have a verifiable presence on social media.

Verify Pictures: Look for inconsistencies in their photos or stock photos. Is there more than one photo of the kitten available? Do a Google image search to see if the kitten’s photos appear elsewhere. Scammers often steal kitten photos of legitimate breeder’s kittens and offer the kitten for sale for a low price. This is specifically why we watermark all of our photos!

Does their inventory of available kittens make sense? Do they have for sale many breeds of cats or many kittens of different ages & generations (F#’s). Most breeders only have a few litters at a time so if you see a large inventory of kittens available either, they are a scammer or a high-production cattery. If they are a high-production cattery, it should be very easy to verify them as no doubt they would be well known.

Trust Your Instincts: If something feels off or too good to be true, ie; the price, it likely is. Research the cost of a Savannah cat from a legitimate breeder here: as published by the Savannah Cat Association.

Ask for the following documentation prior to sending any money:
● additional photos of the kittens and of the parents
● documentation of veterinary care (vaccinations, wellness checkups, proof of spay/neuter)
● a purchase contract – review their health guarantee
● request a video chat with the kittens.

Video Chat or Meet in Person: Beware of anyone who doesn’t provide additional photos, videos, etc. and insists on only meeting you in a parking lot to sell you a kitten! If it is not possible to visit in person, video chat with the breeder and the kittens. **Of note, some legitimate reputable breeders out there do not offer in-home visits, (their home, their choice) but would absolutely be willing to answer all of your questions, send you more photos and videos, and most importantly, Video Chat with you.**

Avoid Pressure: Scammers often create urgency. Be cautious if they rush you into a decision or ask for quick payments. A good breeder will take the time to answer all of your questions.

Payment Methods: Use secure, traceable payment methods. Paypal and most credit cards offer some buyer protections. Avoid sending wire transfers (Western Union, MoneyGram, etc.), which are harder to trace if something goes wrong.

Words of caution: Savannah cats are a rarer cat breed, there are not that many legitimate Savannah cat breeders out there, but there are tons of scammers, the most common scam is low priced F1 Savannah kittens, be aware that the typical cost of an F1 is anywhere from $12,000 to $20,000 depending on quality. Also, be aware, “next-day” airline cargo shipping” of a pet is nearly impossible due to the obvious logistics involved!

How are your cats and kittens housed?

All of our cats are beloved family members and are never kept in cages. They live in our home or in spacious cattery buildings with attached catios. The mother cats come inside to have their kittens, which are raised in the kitten nursery room. Once they are litterbox trained (around 8-9 weeks old), they’re free to roam the house.

Check out our Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok pages for thousands of photos and videos of our cats and kittens.

When picking up your new kitten, you are welcome to visit the cattery, some of the cats will even be happy to say hi!

We also offer a virtual tour of our cattery so you can see how our breeding cats are spoiled.

Why do you wait til 12 weeks of age to send a kitten to their new home?

In ideal conditions, kittens should stay with their mother and littermates until at least 12 weeks of age to ensure proper socialization and development. During this time, they learn important behaviors from their mother and siblings, which help them grow into well-adjusted adults. Additionally, staying with the family allows them to receive essential vaccinations, health care and to be spayed/neutered thus setting a solid foundation for their future. We want our kittens to be fully prepared for their new homes, which is why we adhere to this guideline.

Why do you spay/neuter prior to rehoming?

All of our kittens are spayed/neutered prior to rehoming *depending upon veterinary scheduling and availability. This is part of our commitment to responsible breeding and ensuring the best possible health for your kitten!

Early spaying and neutering offer several benefits, including preventing hormonal behaviors such as aggression, escaping & roaming, and vocalization associated with mating. It also reduces the likelihood of unwanted spraying in both male and female cats. *Unfixed cats, once they become sexually mature both male and female of any breed spray to mark their territory. Their territory can include your home and everything in it! Cats can mature as young as 4 months old (more typically around 8-12 months).

Additionally, early procedures can lower the risk of certain health issues, such as reproductive cancers, and help control the pet population. By spaying or neutering your kitten at an early age, you contribute to their overall well-being and promote a more harmonious living environment.

What food do your cats and kittens eat?

Some of our cats eat a nutritionally complete raw diet, some eat a mix of high protein canned and dry kibble, every cat is different and has different food preferences, just like people do!

Canned foods include Wellness, Nulo, Tiki Cat, Instinct
Dry foods include Wellness, Wellness Core, Nulo, Wysong, Instinct, Solid Gold and Earthborn

The kittens learn to eat foods from their moms so they eat what their mom eats, so with our cattery, it varies from litter to litter. We have an online “new kitten guide” that spells out the specific foods that each litter is eating and how and when to transition them to new foods if desired.

What brand of cat wheel?

If you’re wondering – they all run on the One Fast Cat Wheel ⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️

As you may have noticed, our cats & kittens love running on their cat wheels!!! The kittens typically climb on the wheel to try it out when they’re about 5½ weeks old and turn pro by age 12 weeks.

Buy a NEW One Fast Cat wheel here

What’s a microchip?

A microchip is a small electronic device (about the size of a grain of rice) implanted under your pet’s skin, typically between the shoulder blades. It contains a unique identification number linked to a database with your contact information. When a lost pet is scanned at a veterinary office or animal shelter, the chip’s number is retrieved, allowing for identification and reunification with the owner.

Register the microchip number with your contact information at: www.my24pet.com it’s free to register, but they do have extra paid services that you can opt for. *Prior to adoption, their microchip number is registered with our contact info. we ask that when you transfer the registration, you keep us listed as a secondary contact.

It’s important to note that microchips are not GPS trackers; they don’t provide real-time location data and cannot be used to track your pet’s movements.

Are Savannah cats hypoallergenic?

No, not particularly. They do have a shorter coat and seem to shed less than a lot of cats, so that may help somewhat. However, the actual allergic reaction to cats is to protein in the cat’s saliva, skin, and urine not the hair itself.

BTW, all cats have this protein, so there is no truly hypoallergenic cat, though a person’s reaction can vary from cat to cat even within any given breed of cat.

What’s the difference between a Savannah cat and a Bengal cat?

The Savannah cat is a hybrid breed of an African serval and is known for its bold spotted coat pattern. Savannahs are taller cats with longer legs, larger ears, and a triangular-shaped head.

The Bengal cat is a hybrid breed of an Asian leopard cat and is known for its striking rosetted coat pattern. Bengal cats have a more compact body, shorter legs, a rounder head, and smaller ears.

Both breeds are energetic and playful but may require different levels of socialization and care according to their F# (generations away from their wild ancestors). Their comparable energy levels make them suitable housemates.

Does your cattery take back your kittens if they need to be re-homed?

Absolutely! We welcome them back with open arms! We genuinely care about our kittens, our kitten contract specifically spells out that our kittens are to be returned to us should unexpected life circumstances occur and they need to be re-homed. This commitment to their well-being is lifelong, and we want to ensure that every kitten finds a loving and suitable home. Your kitten will always have a place with us.
